| Linda MacKenzie - 08/13/2004 NICHOLSON Seeking information on Donald NICHOLSON, who died in Cheraw, Chesterfield County, South Carolina in 1823. Donald and his brother John immigrated to Belfast, Prince Edward Island, Canada on the ship "Polly" with a group of Scottish Settlers in 1803. These settlers were mostly from the Isle of Skye and Ross-shire. Donald was the first schoolmaster in Belfast. He later opened a merchantile business with his brother John. They owned two vessels and shipped cattle and produce between PEI and Newfoundland. John NICHOLSON died on PEI ca. 1822. Donald died on 5 February 1823 in Cheraw, SC - probably while visiting relatives. Alexander MacLEAN, a nephew of John and Donald NICHOLSON came to PEI in 1829 from Aird, Inverness County, Scotland to settle their estate. He remained on PEI. Does anyone know anything more about John and Donald NICHOLSON or the NICHOLSON families in Cheraw, SC who they may be related to? John and Donald's mother may have been a MARTIN from Skye. Thanks, Linda Jean Nicholson P.O. Box 1541 Charlottetown, PEI C1A 7N4 Canada nicmack@pei.sympatico.ca ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ |
