ROSCOE (RASCOE) Families
Researching theh ROSCOE (RASCOE) families of Chesterfield, Marlboro, and Darlington
Counties of South Carolina as well as Richmond, Stanly, Cabarrus, and other counties of
North Carolina. Time frame 1790 to present. Especially interested in the ancestors and
descendants of Oliver ROSCOE (ca. 1824 - ca. 1901), William Riley ROSCOE, Sr.
(ca. 1830 - ca. 1904), Joseph Franklin ROSCOE (ca. 1842 - 1917), and Alexander
"Sandy" R. ROSCOE (1871 - 1939).

Alexander R. ROSCOE
Alexander R. ROSCOE was born October 11, 1871, in South Carolina and died 28 July
1939. He married Annie Jane LISENBY about 1891. Both are buried in the Hopewell
Baptist Church Cemetery west of Chesterfield, in Chesterfield County, SC. Marie
Wiggins in her LISENBY Lines book identified Alexander as "Sandy" ROSCOE and
said that he was a son of William and Isabel ROSCOE. I believe that this is incorrect.
In the 1880 census "Sandy" ROSCOE was a child living in the household of William
and Nancy ROSCOE which was a completely different Household than that of William
and Isabel ROSCOE. I have been unable to positively identify William and Nancy
ROSCOE although the 1870 census show this William to be married to a Mary ROSCOE.
This can be seen in that in both the 1870 and the 1880 census William ROSCOE eldest
daughter is Susanna ROSCOE. Alexander "Sandy" ROSCOE was a farmer living in Ruby,
SC area. I have assumed that he died in South Carolina however there is no death
certificate for him or his wife at the DHEC in Columbia. Has anyone seen an obituary
for Alexander ROSCOE or have proof of who his parents and paternal grandparents were?
