  William Thurman: The agencies housed in this location were at various times located in several different buildings in town. The agencies are: Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), the Soil Conservation Service (SCS), and the Famers Home Administration (FmHA). 1. The ASCS office had at least two prior locations. It was located in the upstairs of the Bank of Chesterfield, and later relocated to the site of the former Western Auto Store on the south side of Main Street. Don Sweeney was the County Executive Director (CED) for several years. Don died in the office at the second location. Willard Page followed Don as CED in 1960 and upon his retirement in 1993, Tommy Laney became CED. Long-time employees of the office included: C. J. Eddins, Rachel King, Edna Hendrix, Carroll Jacobs, Jason Rivers, and many others. The name of ASCS was changed in 1995 to the Farm Services Agency (FSA) 2. The Soil Conservation Service (SCS) is located here today. George L. (Pal) Harmon was District Conservationist for many years and was followed by William (Bill) Carter around 1966. Charles Babb followed as District Conservationist. The name of SCS was changed in 1995 to the Natural Resources and Conservation Service (NRCS) 3. Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) now known as Rural Development (RD) was housed in this building until1997 when the office was closed and moved to Bennetsville as a result of reorganization of the agency.
