Jimmy Sandy Baker: We lived in a duplex that was across the street from Charles and Mary Pusser.. you can see the Pusser's house and barn. James and Frances McRae and their daughter, Mary Kendall McRae, lived in the other apartment .. Next door is the Hall Odom house and down the street around the curve is the Kirkley house... there was another house next door to the Kirkley's and my grandmother (Ethelyn Watson Campbell Mallow) lived in one of those two houses (in the 1920's I think).. One afternoon Rouse, Harriet, Ellison and I were out back of Rouse's house- there was a stepladder in the back yard. Rouse fashioned a cape out of a towel, tied the towel around his neck, climbed to the top of that ladder, announced 'I am Captain Marvel', and flew off with his arms outstretched. Rouse's mother came dashing from the house to pick him up off the ground with his nose bleeding... I don't believe Rouse ever tried that stunt again. Ellison was a very bright student and later earned his Doctorate in Psychology.
