Tom Eddins
Tribute
Dr. William Perry: The story is told about Mr. Tom Eddins, County Auditor, that if you needed to see him you could go to his office, the Post Office, the Baptist Church, his house, or any place in between and you would find him. He had a daughter, Lera, who married Floyd Davis, who served as Chief of Police for Chesterfield, Myrtle Beach and Bennettsville, SC. Mary Lou married I. B. Merriman’s brother and they moved to Bishopville. Sammy Copeland bought the house recently.

Elizabeth Ann Gaddy Rivers: Mary Lou Eddins Merriman inherited this house. Dr. J. B. Rivers family had an appartment here until they built in the country. Mr. Tom Eddins was the County Auditor and they bought groceries from daddy. They would always call in orders to be delivered. Many times it would be one loaf of bread or a quart of milk. Mrs. Eddins may have been an invalid, I don’t ever recall seeing her. Each month I would carry their bill to the Autidtors office and Mr. Tom would go over it with a fine tooth comb. I recall him being a very meticulous person. The Auditor’s office also took bids for groceries for the Chain Gang (Josh Brooks, Supervisor) and the jail (Margie Hill, Supervisor of kitchen). I recall many great smells coming from Margie’s kitchen.

Katherine Ward Rivers Braswell: Mary Lou married J. W. Merriman. Mr. Tom Eddins was Treasurer of Chesterfield Baptist Church from many, many years.

James W. Jenkins: I recall that Mr. Eddins had a pomgranate bush on the left side of the house that became a target for some unnamed friends and myself each Halloween.
