Dr. William Perry: This was the site of the first Ford Dealership in Chesterfield (Luther Munn owned the business). Later Lloyd Hartsell operated a Chrysler & DeSoto Dealerhisp here. Watson Brothers moved from main street to this location. I think Edith Watson operated a beauty shop in the section on the right.
Mary Frances Burch Owens: My father, J. P. Burch, and Mr. Jim Campbell, operated a Dodge - Plymouth Dealership at this location. The business closed because they were unable to acquire cars during WW II. The Army operated a PX at this location for soldiers who were on maneuvers in Chesterfield County in the early 40’s. James W. Jenkins: I recall that my father worked for Mr. Hartsell and he borrowed a car that I had never driven for me to use to get my driver’s license. I remember it had a dyna-flow transmission. This was a big adjustment for me since I had learned to drive on a 1934 Ford. I got my driver’s license one week after my 14th birthday. |
