Tommy Burr House and Dry Cleaner Site

Tommy Burr House

  Bessie Lee Jenkins:
Tommy and Grace Burr lived here. At one time there was a small house at the point where the addition was added to the original that they converted to a dry cleaner. When we returned from Hampton, Va in the early 40's we stayed in that house for a short period of time. Walter Burr, Sr. and Tommy Burr operated a dry cleaning establishment on the north side of Main Street near where Clyde Hendrix later had a furniture store. Tommy left the store uptown and started his own dry cleaning business at this location and I worked there as a seamstress for a number of years. Tommy and Grace had three girls (Betty Lou, "Tunnie", and Barbara Ann).
