James W. Jenkins: With housing rather plentyful and government assisted housing available today, it is difficult for many people to realize the service provided to the community by those people who could afford to build rental houses. The Teal families, Tyler and R. D. maintained a number of rental houses over the years. A few of them are shown in the photos provided here. At one time, about three or four additional houses existed before you get to the ones in the photos.
In the last photo before the woodshop, that site had a house before this building was constructed. Behind that house, there were two or three small, unpainted frame houses that were rental property. We lived in the last house of the group. I recall that my sister, Marilyn, was born when we lived there (the house is still standing but it has been relocated and refurbished). To the east of this location is another group of rental houses that are shown in the final photo. I recall that Nelson and Frances Gardner lived in one of the houses. Frances always accused me of coming to visit everytime they made ice cream. I probably did.
