Katherine Ward Rivers Braswell: Sylvia McManus Johnston grew up in this house. Her father was a dentist, and her mother was a teacher. I recall that she had a brother and sister.
Editor's Note: Johnny Johnston, Sylvia's husband, was the golf coach at Wake Forest University. He coached Arnold Palmer when he was a student at Wake Forest. Sylvia Johnston's daughter is Cathy Johnston-Forbes, and she plays on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour. Sylvia's parents were Dr. R. L. McManus and Ethel Porter McManus. Her brother's name was Bob, and her sister's name was Mary Frances.
