James W. Jenkins:
This was the Ed Stephenson house. Mr. Stephenson operated a livery stable behind Stephenson's Hardware.
Elizabeth Ann Gaddy Rivers: I always think of this as the Stephenson house. Ed and Eloise Thomas Stephenson lived here. "Miss" Eloise had a beautiful rose garden, and as long as she was able, she tended it every day. People came from far and near to view her roses, and she shared them in gorgeous arrangements for many social occasions in town. Another thing I remember about her was her love of bridge and her keen insight into the game. After "Miss" Eloise's death the house was sold to James Riley and Pat McMahan Moore, and at his death it was sold to Bobby Lane and Lane Construction. Stephen and Jessica Beckham lived here next, and she opened a crafts shop and art studio called Platinum Rose Designs. Today the house is unoccupied. |
