Dr. William Perry: My father built this house, and we were living here when my brother Jerry was born. My mother experienced a number of health problems after Jerry’s birth, and my parents moved back to my grandmother’s homeplace on the other end of town. Daddy had selected this site because it was in a good neighborhood, and the house is pretty much as I remember it except that my father had a garage on the left side of the house. The house faced south, and the porch extended on three sides of the house. I had a peddle car which I rode on this porch. I credit my love of automobiles to that early beginning. I have a '62 Corvair convertible that has been restored which I drive occasionally, and I have a '67 Thunderbird and '65 Mustang that have been restored. My son, William Kirven Perry, maintains these two vehicles at his home in Lumberton, NC.

Katherine Ward Rivers Braswell: Mrs. Will Redfearn lived here when I was growing up. Bill Redfearn brought Billy and Jimmy to live here after their mother, Sara Mangum Redfearn, died. Jimmy was three months old at the time she died.

James W. Jenkins: The Department of Social Services used this home for a number of years. This is the site of Douglas Gallery today.

Elizabeth Ann Gaddy Rivers: I remember when Arthur and Dora Griggs Adams lived in an apartment here. I rode in the grocery delivery truck to take groceries to them. They had no children, but their pride and joy was Lee Davis, whom they kept for Sue Lee Davis, his mother, while she worked.
Until recently Leon and Kay Gulledge Douglas had an antiques business and gift shop, Douglas Gallery, at this location. The house is once again a private residence that is the rental property for the Douglases.

Troylene Moore Merrill: My uncle and aunt, Arthur (Big Arthur) adn Dora (Doker) Griggs Adams had an apartment in this house. Lee Davis stayed with them while his mother, Sue Lee King Davis (later Harmon) worked at her beauty shop. One time Big Arthur took Lee to get his hair cut; and that made me want mine cut too. Doker took me to Lee's mother's shop, but she didn't cut it like Lee's and I cried and cried. I remember Big Arthur would hold Lee down and pay me a nicle to give him a kiss. Memories, memories!
