James W. Jenkins: I think Mr. Clark was a cotton buyer. Mrs. Clark was an elementary teacher. We lived in the Tyler Teal homes located behind what later became the Teal Wood Shop. I recall my first business venture. I was in the third grade and somehow I had secured some packages of seed to sell and I called on Mrs. Clark--she bought the only pack of seed I have ever sold. I thought sales work was too easy, and that I needed a bigger challenge. If she had been a tougher sell, I might have pursued sales as a career. |
