Selma Rae Rivers Henderson: When I was a child, the Lloyd Rivers family lived in this house.
James W. Jenkins: I recall that Mr. Joe Hendrick lived at this location when I delivered papers. Later on, the William Curtis and Sallie Boswell Griggs family lived here. They had three children: Shirley, Betty, and William Paul (Willie). Shirley was in my class at school, and Betty, who married John Bailey, was a year behind me. Willie was an attorney who practiced in Cheraw; he died in 2001. Mr. Griggs was a town policeman. Katherine Ward Rivers Braswell: Ted Pusser lived here before Joe Hendrick. Elizabeth Ann Gaddy Rivers: My first memory of this house was when Mr. Joe Hendrick and his wife, Azile Baker Hendrick, lived here. I thought it was strange that a tree was in the middle of the sidewalk in front of the house; you still have to walk around that tree! Mrs. Hendrick died while they were living here. Later, Mr. Joe and his daughter, Edna Hendrick, moved into the Branch Apartments at 618 West Main Street and lived there until their deaths. The house was sold to Henry and Margie Perry Pusser and became rental property until Willie Griggs bought it. Willie's parents, Curtis and Sallie Boswell Griggs, then moved here from East Main Street. The house was next sold to Walter and Pattie Parker Wagner, who sold it to Lafon and Cheryl Lisenby Grice, who live here today. |
