Marion Ellis House Carl Ellis House Allan Thurman House |
S. Hazel Ellis: My parents visited my father’s sister (Grace) in Kingstree, SC and saw this house. They secured a copy of the plans and a Mr. Mungo from Pageland, SC built the house. We moved into the house the day before Pearl Harbor was attacked--December 6, 1941. Carl Ellis bought the house from the estate in 1993 or 1994 and his wife lives there today. Prior to living in this house, we lived in the wooden house just east of this location. After we moved from the wooden frame house, My aunt, Kathleen lived there. Also, Bud and Virginia Douglass (he was Clerk of Court) lived there as well. David and Virginia Campbell bought the house next. This house was originally built by Mr. Carl Douglass. Before my parents lived at this location, they lived in a house that was located where the Piggly Wiggly was built. My father and Mr. Carl Douglass worked out a trade for the two pieces of property and that is how we came to live here. My father was a rural mail carrier. |
