Elizabeth Ann Gaddy Rivers: Ella Gaskins bought the house and her daughter, Lealla, married Lonnie Rivers and they lived in the home with her. Lonnie and Lealla bought the house from Mrs. Gaskins and continued to live there until their death.
James W. Jenkins In every generation some homes act as magnets for young people. That was true of the Rivers home in the 50's. I spent many pleasant hours visiting with friends. We considered Mr. Lonnie and Mrs. Lealla friends as well. Sara Kate was a classmate and Glenn and Charles (Plume) were great friends. It saddens me to think that all three of my dear friends in the last photo are all deceased. Glenn married Joann Teal and they had no children. Both are deceased. Charles W. "Plume" married Elizabeth Ann Gaddy and they had three children (Chris, Craig, and Amy). Without knowing it at the time (I didn't know what one was then), Plume must have been the first Renaissance man I ever knew. He was very bright and he had a wide range of interests. His instant recall of musical scores and performers was nothing short of amazing. Today Elizabeth Ann "Punk" has the best knowledge base of all my contemporaries. I am amazed at her recall powers. Sara Kate married Ralph Sellers, a great friend as well, and they have a wonderful family (Al and Mindy). They live in Columbia, SC. |
