James W. Jenkins: Teal's Mill Pond was the site of an electrical generation system that served the town of Chesterfield. It was established by Dr. D. T. Teal and was later sold to Carolina Power and Light Company. The overflow scene from the photos looks ominous today, at one time there was a sandy beach on the side of the overflow stream and people swam and had picnics at that location. On one occasion when I was a youngster, we were swiming in the overflow and I stepped into the channel and was swept away by the current. Fortunately an aunt saw what happened and she was able to grab me before I went under and was washed down stream. My aunt died recently and I recalled that incident while visiting the family.
