Settled Case Files for Claims Approved by the Southern Claims Commission: According to the National Archives, the Southern Claims Commission was created by an Act of Congress on March 3, 1871 to receive, examine, and consider claims submitted by Southern Unionist citizens whom sought compensation for supplies that had been confiscated by or furnished to the U.S. Army during the Civil War. Below are those claims that have been allowed/approved.
