On this the 29th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty five personally appeared Ahaz Rogers a resident of the District and State aforesaid aged as he believes seventy seven years in open court before his Honor A. P. Buster? the presiding Judge of the said Court, who being first duly sworn according to Law, did upon his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed June 7, 1832. That he has no record of his age; entered the service in the spring of the year 1779 as a substitute for one Thurman in the State Troops of South Carolina commanded by Colonel Thompson, his captain was Joseph Worley, that he was living in Chesterfield District at the time he entered the service which was for the term of sixteen months; marched through Camden in Kershaw District, thence to a place called Black Swamp and from thence towards Charleston, that he was wounded by a ball which passed through his left shoulder from which wound he suffered to this day; that after the Battle at Stono, he was carried to Charleston and placed in the Hospital inconsequence of the aforesaid wound; that he remained in the Hospital some time and afterwards joined the army west of Charleston and marched back there. He then received a furlough to return home inconsequence of the wound which he had received and returned no more to the service; that he never received a discharge and has no written evidence of his service or any witnesses now alive who can testify to the facts he has stated. He hereby relinquishing all claim to any Pension except the present and declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of the Agency of any State.

We Lewis Gainey a clergyman and Hugh Craig a citizen both residing in the District and State aforesaid, do hereby certify that we have long been acquainted with Ahaz Rogers who has sworn to and subscribed the forgoing declaration; that we believe him to be seventy seven years of age; that he is reputed and believed I the neighborhood in which he resides to have been a Soldier of the Revolution and that we concur in that opinion.

And the said Court do hereby declare their opinion after the investigation of the matter and after having put the Interrogations prescribed by the War Department that the said Ahaz Rodgers was a Revolutionary Soldier and served as he has stated. Also that it appears to them that Lewis Gainey who has signed the preceding certificate is a clergyman residing in the District and State aforesaid and that Hugh Craig is a respectable citizen residing in the same State and District, that they are both credible persons and that their statement is entitled to belief.

I do hereby verify that Ahaz Rodgers was placed o the Pension Roll of this State in the year 1812 for services rendered in the Revolutionary War and has regularly drawn his pension ever since. Given under my hand and seal of office at Columbia in the State of South Carolina the day above written.

Additional Declaration of Ahaz Rodgers in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress of the 7th June 1832.

On this fifteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty five Ahaz Rodgers who has already sent on to the Pension office his Declaration before me, W. J. Hanna a Justice of the Peace in the District and State aforesaid, who being first duly sworn according to Law, doth on his oath make the following additional declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed June 7th 1832. That at the time he received his furlough there was two months of his term unexpired, that he therefore served fourteen months in manner as stated in his previous declaration.

I John Craig Esquire Clerk of Court of Common Pleas and General Sessions for the District aforesaid do hereby certify that the forgoing contains the original additional Declaration of Ahaz Rodgers in the matter of this application for a Pension. I further certify that W. J. Hanna whose signature appears to the above is an Acting Justice of the Quorum for said District and that his Acts as such are entitled to full faith and credit. I further certify that no court will be held in said District before whom the above declaration might be made until the first Monday in March next.
